The Los Angeles Homelessness Committee receives a $10,000 grant from the Firestone Foundation to carry out a pilot program to teach disadvantaged children to skate. “SKATE LA” evolves into a highly successful program, which is now run by the Challengers Boys and Girls Center, and has received continued funding from Firestone.

Member Susan Sarandon is honored by the New York state NARAL for her efforts on behalf of reproductive rights. Member Stockard Channing presents the award.
